28/4/2019 0 Comments Bringing home the goldWe have had an exciting start at my high school for softball! It's been a year of transitions, that began with the an annual tournament that we always play in. It was action packed! We did pretty well last year at the tournament (coming in second to our rival), and we were excited to play this season because we have a bunch of freshman playing. They have been a great addition to our Shamrock team. We were ready.
The excitement started a few days before the actual tournament, due to a miscommunication a few of our players had scheduling conflicts, we only had 8 players, but I knew that everything would work out for the best. At the last moment, I was able to convince one of my swimming friends to be our 9th player so that we wouldn't have to forfeit the two games. We showed up on Saturday optimistic after a close game the day before. We came out of the gates hot, scoring 4 runs in the 1st inning with almost everyone getting on base during the game. The final score was 12-10, and we were hoping to ride that wave of success into the next game. Our second game was a little more exciting, but I attribute that a little bit to becoming tired and I personally was pitching my 3rd full game is less than 24 hours. We stayed strong throughout the game offensively and the game ended 2-2 after 7 innings, which means that we would be going to extra innings. We struck quickly in the 8th inning, with our freshman first basemen singling to left field and ended up at 3rd on the throw. Another freshman was able to hit her in with a single and that one run was enough to hold onto the lead through the bottom of the inning. The final out was a line-drive to me and everyone was excited in winning the game, but then we were ecstatic when we realized that we had just won the tournament. With the win, we were bringing the first trophy back to the school in our softball program's history. This led to many photos being taken and some well- earned celebration. I and everyone else on the team knows what we are capable of great things and we are working hard to get some more W's.

3/3/2019 0 Comments Snow or softball? It's that time of the year again! Opening day of Softball! It's the beginning of the 2019 High School Softball season is tomorrow, but the weather says otherwise. With the looming threat of a snow day on the horizon, it feels more like Christmas than softball season. But softball stops for no one!
I'm excited for a whole bunch of reasons; I was named a captain, I have the goal to break a few records this year, and the freshman are really going to contribute this year! Side note, I finally get to wear my real number (#17). Our conference is going to be a little different from last, and hopefully it swings in our favor. As long as we play for each other, the sky is the limit! Softball also signifies that the school year is two-thirds of the way done, and the words Seniors and Class of 2020 are beginning to occur more frequently and honestly that scares me a little because I know that the responsibility it is to be a senior, but that will be in a school post! Adieu! -marvin |
MarvinThis is all about the trials and tribulations of being a fast-pitch pitcher. I currently am playing on my high school team and on a travel softball summer team.
